An icon with an open book and a computer cursor. Use a book design template to self-publish.

Use a book template, complete with in-template directions & a full instruction guide, to format your book.

Each book design template kit comes with a full instruction guide to help you lay your book out in Adobe InDesign. The guide walks you through the steps for using each specific template. You also have access to our typesetting tools and techniques videos and training even before you buy a template.

Book Template Software

Our templates work in Adobe InDesign, the industry standard for professional book layout (we have versions for InDesign CC and for InDesign CS4+). If you’re familiar with the basics of this program, you can use this template yourself—the instruction guide and video will make the fiddly bits a breeze. Because we use InDesign, you can easily get the print version and the ebook version of your book ready at the same time.

If You Don’t Know InDesign

If you aren’t familiar with the basics of Adobe InDesign but you’re up for a crash course (and have the time to take advantage of Adobe’s free trials!), we really enjoy Lynda.com‘s basic courses on InDesign.

If learning a new software program isn’t in your plan right now, don’t worry—all of us here are fast friends with InDesign already. You can simply pick out a template and contact us about typesetting support. One of our trained, experienced book designers will typeset your book for you at a reasonable per-word rate. You’ll end the process with a print-ready PDF, a publication-ready ebook, and all the editable files.
